So, I made a To Do List the last time I went to the Midwest in December and I feel it is only fitting that I make another one for my return to Chicago in less than 2 weeks. I have a feeling this list will be very similar to the last list I made, meaning everything will probably be about drinking, but what the hell I'm gonna go for it anyways. Also, we have a solid group making it to Chicago for this reunion (Annie, G, Tal, Mike, Bobby, Josh, and Jimmy I believe) so I think all the things on this list can be easily completed. So here goes it...
1. Hit up John Barleycorn's in both Lincoln Park and Wrigleyville. I would like to start with a wonderful lunch at JBC in Lincoln Park where I can get there veggie panini with waffle fries and watch all the hott guys in Chicago walk by. G and I decided last summer when we were doing this exact thing that we saw more hott guys jsut walking the streets of Chicago then we had seen all 4 years in Madison. And with the guys out here in San Diego, I am more than positive that I will find about 100x more guys in Chicago than I have ever seen or met in San Diego. But this will only be the first stop, because after enjoying my delicious veggie panini I am going to have to make it down to Wrigleyville so I can hit up the other JBC and their amazing dance floor. I am never much of a drunk dancer (well besides my one signature move which is basically just me humping things), but the dance floor here brings out the true dancer in me. I remember me, G, Sarah, Joel, Mike, and Jimmy killing it on the dance floor here til I'm pretty sure we had to leave because someone was too drunk (Mike maybe?? after he "cheers babe'd" about 100x times at the previous bar and made us go home at 12:30 when he promised we would make it at the bars til 5am....yea that sounds about right). But anyways, I look forward to some great drunk dancing here til hopefully past 12:30 this time.
2. The State bar for the WI football game. Now I have never actually been to this bar for a WI football game, but it is the WI bar in Chicago and I have seen many facebook pics of people drinking there for the games and it looks amazing. I am not sure if it is a day or night game, but as much as I love day drinking for WI games, I think it would be very beneficial if it was at night so we could hit up their amazing drink specials where wells and domestics are free for an hour. I remember coming here with my friend Scott when he used to work there and sitting in a booth and ordering 30 vodka cranberries and lemonades right when we sat down for the 5 of us in the booth. I also remember Annie getting a massive plate of cheese fries just for herself and taking them to a seperate table so she could eat ALL of them by herself.
3. Ride the L or a cab drunkenly back to Mike's place and NOT pass out everytime. This pretty much explains itself but thank God for Gina and Jimmy cause Mike and I are a lost cause on this one.
4. Castaways. Although I think it may be too chilly in Chicago for this one, all I want to do is wander up to Castaways and hear "Don't stop believing" being played by an 80s coverband with a lead singer who thinks he is Bon Jovi with his tight acid wash jeans, cut off shirt, fake tan, and hair.
5. Drink lots and lots of Caribou coffee. I already know all the different orders I have to drink while there. Cold press and an Americano with 2 pumps white chocolate in each, Chai tea latte with a shot of espresso and half water, Ho-Ho Mocha with half the syrup/white chocolate, and if I get a little crazy an espresso Northern Lights cooler (p.s. I'm convinced that they put crack in the white chocolate syrup there cause I honestly dream about it).
So, there is the short list I have compiled thus far, however, as I was brain storming my list I thought I should also make a list of things NOT To Do in Chicago...
1. Go to the Taste of Chicago. I really would like to skip ducking from gun shots and running down the street as people get shot during this trip, so thank god the Taste will not be going on this time.
2. Go to California Pizza Kitchen extremely hungover. As much as I loved attempting to wander around Chicago extremely hungover, I'm pretty sure I could go without sprinting to the bathroom and trying not to throw up all over the restaurant this time.
3. Get into a cab at the end of the night with a driver named Papi. I did love the dance music Papi played, but I think surviving one cab ride with Papi as he ran red lights and drove about 60 mph down busy side streets was about all my life can handle.
Alright, there you have it. I'm sure I missed a lot of Do's and Don'ts but thats all I have for now. I can't wait for this Chicago reunion and I'm sure I will have many more things to add to the lists for my next trip after this one is over!
